Treatment for skin spots is less advanced than for other skin conditions. 

Hyper-pigmentation may occur for a variety of reasons, depending on the activity of melanocytes (cells containing melanin) and skin tone.

Causes:
Over-exposure to the sun, depending on skin type, genetics, geographical location.

Maladies of the skin, age-dependent hormonal changes, pregnancy, perfume, chemicals.

Trauma, mechanical changes, injury, skin inflammation, exposure to medications and hormones.
